Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
Publication Date: January 18, 2022
Genres: Contemporary Romance
After serving five years for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan is released from prison. Her first order of business: return to the town where it all went wrong and find a way to see her daughter, Diem. Kenna has never Diem. She gave birth to her while incarcerated, and Diem was immediately placed into the custody of Diem’s father’s parents. Kenna is determined to put her life back together and convince Diem’s grandparents that she deserves a second chance. But no matter how hard she works to prove herself, no one is willing to trust her. The only person who is willing to try is Ledger Ward. Ledger and Kenna slowly develop an undeniable connection. But Kenna’s past mistakes threaten both her relationship with Ledger and any hope she might have to forge a relationship with Diem.
In true Colleen Hoover fashion, Reminders of Him is an emotional story from the first page to the last. It’s certainly a tearjerker. It is told in the first person alternating perspectives between Kenna and Ledger.
Kenna was one of my favorite Colleen Hoover heroines. She is such a strong character. She is completely alone, with no support system, but she still manages to pull herself together and get her life on track. She is driven by the hope that one day she will be allowed to meet Diem.
I didn’t love Ledger. I warmed up to him later in the story, but his choices frequently annoyed me. His relationship with Kenna was very much on his terms, and I didn’t like how hot and cold he was with her. The alternating perspectives helped me to respect him a bit more, but I still felt like he was not fair to Kenna.
If you are a fan of Colleen Hoover books, or angsty, emotional romances, this is the book for you!
Thank you to Amazon Publishing and Netgalley for the review copy! All opinions are my own.
Synopsis from Goodreads
After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.
The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.
