The Unhoneymooners

I love Christina Lauren books. There’s something so whimsical and hilarious about them. The Unhoneymooners might be my favorite of theirs yet.

The Unhoneymooners follows Olive, the unlucky twin, who after being miraculously spared from a massive bout of food-poisoning at her sister’s wedding, finds herself on her sister’s free honeymoon in Maui. There’s only one problem, she has to share the trip with her sworn enemy, Ethan, the best man. The stringent rules of the all-expenses paid honeymoon require Ethan and Olive to pretend to be married, or be forced to pay the full cost of the vacation. As Olive begins spending more time with Ethan, she realizes that he’s not actually that bad, if fact she discovers that she’s actually a big fan.

Olive was such a great character. The book is told in first person from Olive’s perspective. She’s frustratingly believable, both funny and stubborn. I felt so incredibly bad for her at the beginning of the book, but as the story went on, her unlucky stride tended to come in spurts as opposed to the constant stream that seemed to be her life. Ethan annoyed me at the beginning, but I definitely warmed up to him the more Olive did. This book definitely has some swoon-worthy moments between the two of them.

My favorite part of the book is Olive and Ami’s big, wonderful family that really looks out for one another. There’s a lot of ups and downs for both characters in the books and whenever anything goes wrong, the entire family shows up with food and love and support and it’s so sweet and comforting.

I loved this story and I definitely recommend it to other romance lovers!
